The Mother of Pong Video Games?
If you think about it even before the early home video games, people use to play video games in public places like arcades, night clubs, roller rinks, etc. But one of the first stand alone systems was Tennis for Two. A gentleman named William Higinbotham who was a nuclear physicist put this game together for a public demonstration at the Brookhaven National Labs.

His game was an immediate hit with the visitors to the lab. Higinbotham had no idea that his invention would be groundbreaking in an industry that has almost 10 billion in sales a year.
